ENRICH EDUCATION THROUGH REAL LIFE CASES
We bring real life cases in our courses to enrich education. As the world is changing faster and faster new (practical) knowledge needs to be adapted continuously in education to teach our students state-of-the-art knowledge. One of the ways we create this new (practical) knowledge is by using real life cases. We want to make a move from statistical, outdated cases in a ‘closed environment’ to the development of dynamical programs which have a clear connection to the world of tomorrow.
We use these real life cases as examples during courses, we build case studies around them, create courses in cooperation with companies and organize Innovation Challenges.
REAL LIFE CASES
Real life cases are offered to the students in different ways. It can be a real life case of half a day but also of several weeks. Below some examples of implementation of cases in education programs.
Guest lecture & case
In this form companies can offer a short real life case. It starts with a guest lecture about their company and the current developments. After this students can work on a case of the company and present their results.
Extensive real life case
ECE develops longer cases of several weeks in cooperation with companies. During this period students work on a real life challenge from a certain company and present their results in the end. Next to this they attend lectures and workshops.
Reusable cases
ECE develops in cooperation with companies cases that are reusable in different education programs. This can be an assignment based on a company where students can work on. It can also be an example (like a video) used to clarify certain topics.
EXAMPLE OF AN EARLIER REAL LIFE CASE

HOLLAND FINTECH - LOGISTIC MEETS FINTECH
In two weeks, 70 MSc students from Rotterdam School of Management of the Erasmus University explored innovative business opportunities at the intersection of FinTech and logistics during a pressure cooker course facilitated by ECE & Holland FinTech. 14 student teams worked on a case provided by 13 different companies in the FinTech and logistics sector.
During this pressure cooker the teams explored the impact of new technologies, in particular FinTech, on established business models, in particular the logistics sector, and set out to discover new digital business and growth opportunities. In the short time frame of two weeks the students used their knowledge and creativity to generate market insights and new solutions. Click here to learn more about this case.
