The Top 250 Scaleups of this year have never deserved more of our appreciation. The Dutch dynamic and booming landscape for fast-growing companies has been put under unprecedented pressure. The health crisis and the social restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, but also the increasing difficulty in hiring new talent, have posed serious threats to the successful scaling of Dutch young and innovative companies.

Remarkably enough, though, the Top 250 Scaleups 2022 managed to overcome and exploit these challenges to actually grow even faster. If anyone is to be able to cope with these new challenges and help us find sustainable, resilient solutions, that will be scaleup entrepreneurs as showcased by this publication.

Amsterdam is the city in the Netherlands with the most companies in the Top 250 Scaleups 2022, followed by Rotterdam (23) and Utrecht (20).

About Top 250 Scaleups

The Top 250 Scaleups is an overview of fast-growing companies (or scaleups) published in collaboration with nlgroeit. The research is led by Prof. dr. Justin Jansen and Prof. dr. Tom Mom, Senior Fellows at Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship and Professors at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Top 250 Scaleups consists of a selection of fast-growing companies (scaleups) that:

  • have at least 10 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) and / or at least 5 million euros in turnover at the start of the measurement period;
  • achieved an average growth of at least 20% in FTE and / or revenue in three consecutive years in the 2018-2021 period.

Top 250 Scaleups Event 2022

Last year, the Top 250 Scaleups Event took place at the AFAS Theater in Leusden (Inspiratielaan 3, Leusden), on 10 October. All winners, including the Gouden Groeier (the fastest-growing company in the Netherlands), Young Scaler, Female Scaler and Impact Scaler, were awarded at our annual Top 250 Event. The event – made for and by scaleup entrepreneurs – included an inspiring programme with renowned entrepreneurs and the opportunity to engage in fruitful discussions about scaling up.
