ECE trains 10 lecturers in entrepreneurship in Mozambique
Today 10 teachers of Universidade A Politecnica, Universidade Eduardo Mondlane and Instituto ISCTEM have finished a Train the Trainer course of Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship (ECE), Erasmus University Rotterdam, and got awarded a certificate for teaching an extra-curricular entrepreneurship module
The aim of this Train the Trainer course is to develop (new) entrepreneurship skills and abilities at motivated higher education graduates, from all disciplines. This will contribute to the long-term economic development of Mozambique, the increase of opportunities of young graduates on the job market and their ability to become successfully self-employed. The three participating universities have a leading role in developing the ecosystem in Mozambique. By developing entrepreneurial skills of their teachers and students, they actively contribute in creating opportunities.
This course leads to an extra-curricular entrepreneurship pilot module that will be provided by the three universities later this year. The extra-curricular module is complementary to the universities’ existing courses and could in future potentially be incorporated into the curriculum.
This project is a result of the strengthened relationship between the Republic of Mozambique and the Kingdom of the Netherlands on entrepreneurship. For this reason Mr. Filipe Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique, visited the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship in Rotterdam in May this year.
In recent years Mozambique already has been building its entrepreneurial ecosystem. Ideialab, Maputo’s incubator, actively contributes to this by facilitating young professionals interested in starting a business through entrepreneurship events, support programmes and mentoring.
The Embassy of the Netherlands in Mozambique is further promoting entrepreneurship via the Orange Corners initiative, which has the goal to establish an innovative support system for entrepreneurs in Mozambique by sustainably strengthening education. Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship will contribute to strengthen the local ecosystem by transferring our knowledge on entrepreneurship to local universities as part of the Netherlands Initiative for Capacity development in Higher Education (NICHE), a Netherlands-funded development cooperation programme of Nuffic.
