Business Programme alumni feverr wins international prize
Dating app feverr is the proud winner of the European Space Week!
Last week, the startup feverr won the Galileo Masters Netherlands Challenge during European Space Week in Helsinki. The team behind feverr impressively accepted this prestigious prize for innovative applications of satellite navigation data while still in process of developing a navigation technology that enables the users of their dating app to meet up safely. To make sure the users will take the safest route to meet up with their match, feverr has teamed up with ESA to achieve that safety. The dating app, which launches this upcoming summer, will allow its users to meet face to face immediately without swiping or chatting online first.
Founders Charlie Wulff and Victor Bloem studied their Master’s in Strategic Entrepreneurship at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University Rotterdam and won a pitching competition during their studies that gave them the golden ticket to the Erasmus Business Programme earlier this year, which helped them further develop their business concept. Together with co-founder and AI developer Obrian Mc Kenzie, the team is now supported within the Business Incubation Centre of the European Space Agency in Noordwijk.
“I’m not sure we would’ve actually pulled through and gotten to where we are now without the acceleration programme.” Co-founder Charlie mentioned in an interview that the Erasmus Business Programme coaching sessions helped them realize that tackling safety is an important factor, considering that the app will be navigating people to a meeting point. “As a startup you kind of get stuck in your head a lot because you think your concept is great and sometimes you just need someone to come in with a sledgehammer and break it all down.”
“What I like about the Erasmus Business Programme mostly, was the chance to bounce around ideas within a group of entrepreneurs that are at a similar stage.“ Charlie’s advice to other entrepreneurs is to “keep talking to other entrepreneurs” as it was beneficial for their entrepreneurial process to be able to network with a diverse group of innovators. According to the entrepreneur, the motivating environment that the programme offers lies in the fact that “you have to go somewhere every Friday, where you know there will be other entrepreneurs who have made steps, [and this] makes you push yourself to do the same”.
