Double digits year over year

5 November 2014

In the early days of his company, Derek Roos had a hard struggle convincing people with the capabilities that Mendix had. Nobody believed him when he called companies with the news that he could not only do it significantly cheaper, but also develop their applications much faster. He got a chance and proved himself right. The rest is history. Mendix doubles in size for eight years in a row and Derek did what he already predicted on day one of his company, he moved to the states. To Boston, to be precisely. If everything seems under control, than you are probably not going fast enough. That does not mean that growing pains can’t be annoying. Attracting good people is difficult, maintaining the culture is in that sense simpler. If someone does appear to not fit the company, then a quick dismissal should follow. Internal posturing distracts from the things you should really focus on as an entrepreneur: working on your business instead of in it. That is an important aspect at whatever stage the company is in. Roos sees that his role and responsibilities as an entrepreneur are constantly changing in recent years. Shifting gears are difficult to predict, but with a market that is maturing, it is inevitable that Mendix will soon upshift to the highest gear.
