Launching in Germany today: nestpick

10 February 2015

Berlin, February 10th 2015 – nestpick, the online platform for verified rental booking for mid and long term accommodation, launches in Germany today. The Berlin-based startup offers a solution for younger generations who require a 21st century solution to a market that has failed to keep pace in the internet age.

The company was founded in May 2014 by German native Fabian Dudek after participating in the ECE Get Started programme, and is backed by Rocket Internet, the main investor since December. Due to its ground breaking success in the Netherlands, the UK, France, Italy and Spain and given the markets need for a platform of this nature, nestpick is now expanding to Germany.

nestpick’s platform is a solution for both tenants and landlords to find a perfect match in a foreign city. The website allows one to rent or let mid to long term accommodation securely, quickly and conveniently. The startup currently has 4000 nests available on their platform and are increasing by 500 every week, expecting to have significantly more by the end of this year.

A new solution to an old problem

nestpick makes renting more convenient for younger generations. One challenge of moving abroad as a student or a young professional is that they do not have the luxury of being able to view potential rentals in person. Young tenants need a convenient, secure environment that facilitates trust. nestpick achieves this through a secure platform and properties verified by its network of photographers. Booking can be done online and in a few easy steps.

“Our team is working to verify all apartments to ensure that what our tenants book online, is reality upon arrival. Having encountered this first hand, I understand the importance of a convenient process and getting what you paid for,” says founder, Fabian Dudek.

“It is our aim to remove barriers and borders, making a global community feel like a local one”.

Last week, nestpick announced that they would reduce their booking fee to a flat 25% of one months rent, making renting on the platform affordable for all budgets.

“The fee reduction brings us one step closer to solving a problem that millions share; and forever changes the way people approach moving abroad”.

Why Germany?

In their expansion plans nestpick aims at markets with highest international student inflow first. According to a database report by the European Commission, the second most popular country for European Erasmus students is Germany. This trend continues to change the overall rental market. Based on a report from the international rental consultancy Savills (2014), the global number of international students will rise from 3 million in 2011 to 3.9 million within the next 10 years, which is an increase of around 30%.
