The second quarter of 2019: Focussing on female entrepreneurship

11 July 2019

The first few months of 2019 were very successful, but our campus kept growing even more in the second semester. In this news item we give you a short update about the events that took place since April and share some things to look forward to.

An inspiring second semester has ended
In the second quarter of 2019, we received almost 6000 guests for more than 100 events, from which 25% were events of external parties like Erasmus MC, Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations and Gemeente Rotterdam. We’re happy to welcome more and more companies outside the campus in the Rotterdam Science Tower.

Young Lady Business Academy
One of the highlights of the last few months was the Young Lady Business Academy of businesswoman Elske Doets. After three editions at the local office in Heerhugowaard, the fourth edition of this event took place at the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship. 52 Ambitious girls and women between the ages of 15 and 24 were inspired with good advice and lectures for five days at our campus. Our own Director of Education & Research, Annique de Greef, gave a lecture to the womans and our ambassador Nilab Yonousi was part of the jury. Cabinet maker Laura Besseling (22), who dreams about having her own international furniture company, received the grand prize: a fully facilitated traineeship in the United States.

Startups from all over Europe visited our campus
On the 28th of May, ‘V4 Startups’ took place for the first time at the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship. Here, over 25 starting entrepreneurs in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) from Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slowakia and the Netherlands got together to introduce their innovative companies to potential investors, venture capitalists and other supporting parties. It was a very successful day with more than 150 visitors.

Community BBQ
We ended the quarter with our yearly BBQ. This year, we hosted the BBQ on the Ground Floor with more than 120 members of our community. It was inspiring to see the networking that happened between different parties. Together, we enjoyed food from Van Eck Catering and music from StudioNul. We’re looking forward to the further development of our community.

Summer vision
As July just started, everyone has the summer in mind. In the upcoming months, we will be developing our campus in ways we couldn’t during the last busy months. We will also be improving the monthly workshops for the community! We’re very much looking forward to the results of these changes and for the over 50 events that are already planned for September.
